A newly remastered print of Rashomon will screen at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences as part of a three-month showcase of Akira Kurosawa’s works. The event is set to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Kurosawa’s death on September 6th, 1998.
Other films to be screened during the tribute will be Seven Samurai (1954), Ran (1985) and Yojimbo (1961). The series will run Fridays and Saturdays from September 18th through October 4th at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.
In conjunction with the screenings, there will be an exhibition of Kurosawa’s rarely seen original artwork.
“Akira Kurosawa: Film Artist” will be unveiled in the Academy galleries after the September 18th, wacth Rashomon online. The event will include a panel discussion with the director’s associates, friends and family, including his son Hisao Kurosawa.
